2023 Enterprise Rent-A-Car Rental Discount (Alberta)

Enterprise Rent-A-Car

Disclaimer/Disclosure

Car In this article, I have tried to summarize Enterprise Rent-A-Car's Alberta policies and procedures of renting regular type vehicles and some other tips from my own experiences. Liabilities, coverages, and policies may vary depending on the rental type and pick-up location.

Requirements for rental

Please ensure you meet the following conditions before booking a rental:
  1. Be 21 years old or above.
  2. Have a valid driver's license! (In Alberta, you need a class 5 GDL or above). If you have a Learner's license, you will NOT be able to rent a rental car for your test.
  3. Have a credit card in YOUR name.
The rental cost, in addition to $300 for any incidentals (speeding tickets, traffic violations, refuelling charges, etc.), gets pre-authorized on your credit card. When you return the vehicle, the final cost gets charged to your card, and the remaining authorization is released.

Method 1: Using a family/friend discount link

If you have a family member or friend who already works at Enterprise, you can request them to send you a link to book a rental at a discounted price (varies based on car class and relationship). The link they send will let you book globally!

Method 2: Check the deals and promotions section on the site

If you visit the official site's deals and promotions section, you'll be able to access various 'Weekend' specials and 'Free Upgrade' specials.

Method 3: Sign up for Enterprise Plus Membership

Just like the 'Frequent Flyers' program, if you often rent and sign up for the Enterprise Plus membership, you could earn points that lead to free rental days. The specific amount of points required for free rentals will vary based on what you book. Also, these points never expire, so you could keep collecting. Members also get email promotions with exclusive offers.

Method 4: Costco/CAA/AMA discounts

Depending on where you work, you may be eligible for an applicable corporate-leisure travel discount. Your work administrator usually has the appropriate account code that you can use while booking a rental at your local branch.

Method 5: Enroll in a corporate account

If you qualify for a corporate account, you could sign up with Enterprise to lock in preferential rates for your frequent and long-term rentals. Corporate accounts can generally negotiate steady and discounted rates from a full-size sedan to 1-ton trucks and more. If you would like to do that, please let me know in the form below, and I'll get the relevant department to reach out.

FAQ: Do I need a credit card to rent / Would a VISA Debit work?

Credit cards are the most convenient payment modes for rentals as it eliminates extra paperwork and verification. Depending on the location, you may be able to use an Interac Debit card (please confirm with your local branch). Generally, the following would apply:
  1. You would need your driver's license, paystub, and at least two utility bills with no outstanding amount. Important: all of these documents MUST have the same local address.
  2. You will need at least three references (first name, last name, phone number, and relationship). These would generally be your supervisor/boss and 2 of your friends or family not living at the same address.
  3. There might be a car class size restriction (for example, you might only be able to rent up to a full-size sedan).

FAQ: Do I need to buy extra protection/coverage/insurance?

Your insurance is most likely transferrable to a rental (please confirm yourself! Some only cover up to a particular car class size/price). Enterprise offers CDW (Collision Damage Waiver) and RAP (Road Assistance Protection) with similar variants across different branches in multiple countries.
Please note: Enterprise does not sell insurance or coverage. Both CDW and RAP are optional protection products.
  1. The CDW essentially covers bumper to bumper, including the windshield, and has a $0 deductible, no insurance involved deal. If you're picking up an 'exotic' vehicle (fancy car), a deductible may apply.
  2. The RAP helps you in case you lose or lock the keys, get a flat tire, need a tow to a local repair shop, or run out of fuel.

LTNT: Low Touch/No Touch

With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, to further reduce contact and speed things up, you can now 'check-in' online when you create a reservation. Think of it as a pre-boarding where the system already verifies your details. (When you get to the branch, they will still confirm your driver's license and credit card matches!).
